THIS WEEK’S GAME

Well folks I am pleased to say that I will be present on Sunday
at Camelia Grove Hotel for the Geelong game
which commences at 1-10pm.
Coverage is on Fox Sports 501.

Hope we can get a good crowd there, although these Sunday games are
a killer, let’s show these Johnny come lately’s to the Camelia Grove we can still
get a decent crowd.

Well there’s nothing like facing Geelong after a loss, they will be fired up,
It will be a massive challlenge, another learning curve, hopefully we can
put them under similar pressure that Carlton did on Monday.

Here is Craig Cameron’s assessment of last week’s game.
Messages for round 5.

– Started well. Ball movement in the first quarter was terrific
– Overuse of handball going forward of centre in the second quarter hurt us.
– Sandilands became impossible to stop as the game wore on. His dominance allowed them to dictate stoppages
– Still in the game in the last quarter but failed to capitalize
– We need to get better at the 1% defensive acts up the ground so that we don’t have to chase so hard. This is costing us in energy at the end of the game. We will know more on the injuries later in the week.

Hope to see you on Sunday afternoon.

TIGERS V FREO

Richmond had it’s best start to a game leading at quarter time 37-11,but
again fell away and lost by 39 points.

Even early in the last quarter they were down by only 14 points but Fremantle
finished the stronger to record a comfortable victory and were never headed.

One thing I must say that under Damien Hardwick there is definitely a lot more hardness
and they are a better tackling side.
Though it must be said there is a difference between hardness and giving away dumb free kicks
by getting sucked in by the opposition(Hayden Ballantyne is now the player I hate
the most in the AFL-dirty little grub,Freo are a niggly side)

But that does not excuse some of the ill discilpine of the Richmond Side,
and still some of the basic errors, such as missing targets from 20m away, not having
a player on the goaline when Pavlich had a shot from a long way out.
Jack Riewoldt is a talented player but his lack of interest during half time and his
falling to the ground when pushed was very ordinary,I hope Hardwick rips into
him.

Having said that I believe there is a little bit improvement showing
great to see Nathan Foley back,Robbie Nahas was very good pressuring up forward
and Deledio on the Half Back flank is a good move,he usually makes the right decison
when he has the ball.

So another loss and off to Geelong on Sunday,it doesn’t get any easier.
Some say we won’t win a game,I don’t believe that,I believe that teams like Adelaide and Essendon
are beatable and I belive that the team will continue to improve each week.

The game will be on Sunday at 1-10PM on Channel Seven,Collingwood are on at 2-10,but we will
be able to view the game at Camelia Grove Hotel.

We will set aside two games to watch at Bardwell Park RSL
I propose that we watch the Dreamtime Game(Only problem I don’t think kids are allowed though it is a night game)
Saturday May 22nd 7-10PM
and the Carlton game
Saturday 14/8/10 2-10 (I think kids are allowed in the Club in the afternoon)
(John no Dragons game on May 22nd-split round in NRL)
If we go ahead with these two games we want to promote it to get as many people as possible
as Bardwell Park RSL are our biggest sponsor.
In the past Camelia Grove have sponsored us $500-00 and $250-00 in the last two years, namely
because I have been game enough to front them.
This won’t happen this year they now have other clubs watching the games there and we just don’t
get the same numbers as the other groups, doesn’t help when we have so many Sunday games.
MATCH REPORT

RICHMOND put up fierce resistance but could not prevent Fremantle running away with a 39-point win at Subiaco on Sunday night.

The Tigers were the better side early, kicking the first five goals of the game, and they were still in the hunt for their first win of 2010 early in the fourth quarter.

However, Fremantle’s form so far this season held true and Mark Harvey’s side advanced to fourth place on the AFL ladder with a 15.22 (112) to 11.7 (73) win.

Fremantle’s influential midfield trio of Aaron Sandilands, Michael Barlow and David Mundy drove a run of eight unanswered goals to build a 20-point lead at the final change.

The Tigers refused to go away with early goals in the fourth quarter, but Fremantle clicked into action and booted five of the game’s last six goals.

The Tigers played their best football of a so-far fruitless season in the opening quarter, with Robin Nahas and Brett Deledio in superb touch.

Nahas finished with three goals and 18 possessions as his side’s best, while Nathan Foley (25 possessions) worked into the game.

Dustin Martin (21) continued to play a leading role in Richmond’s engine room, but, despite the visitors’ bright start, there was a sense of inevitability about the end result.

It doesn’t get any easier for the last-placed Tigers, who take on Geelong in round six.

Richmond 6.1 6.4 9.5 11.7 (73)

Will this week ever end?

I have been a Richmond Football Club supporter for over 30 years and a loyal member for well over a third of those years. Although we have been starved of success my loyalty has never waivered.  I love the club it is as simple as that, and I pay my membership because I want to make sure my money goes to supporting the club I love.  I am in total disbelief this week.  The disappointing events that happened last Sunday morning have made me ask  WHY? Why do I give up my time to raise money for our great club, why do I pay my memberships each year and why do I turn up to watch our games?  WHEN WE HAVE PLAYERS WHO SIMPLY DO NOT RESPECT WHAT IT MEANS TO PLAY FOR THE RICHMOND FOOTBALL CLUB!!  Damien I know we’re a young list, but we need to ensure we bring the right people into this club, players who will wear our jumper with pride and respect.  At the moment it seems we have players who care about only themselves. They are yet to be competitive this season, and would rather have a few million schooners at a Sydney Hotel than recover and plan for their next match. We may not win many games this season but in a season that is painting a bleak pitcure it is imperitive the fans see that we have a committed group of players who are desperate to improve and play in a successful era at Tigerland. You can preach as many blueprints for success as you want but if we don’t have the right people with the right mindset, right temperament, drive and committment the plan may aswell be a beer coaster under your schooner.  Geelong is the blue print. The stance from the club in response to this latest embarrassment has been emphatic and harsh and totally warranted.  Lets hope the penny drops for these players soon because they are getting paid a hell of a lot for dishing up this crap!

TIGERS IN SYDNEY

Well Folks

Another visit to Sydney by the Richmond Tigers ends in disaster yet again,
our record in Sydney for the last few years is terrible.

The one positive off the field was our functions and support for the Team over the
weekend.

It started with the Luxbet footy clinic and barbecue held at Moore Park
with the free Kids clinic afterwards with yours truly and Tim FRohlich helping out
on the day.

Then we had our Pre Game function held at Paddo RSL which was a raging success
due to the hard work of the Sydney Tigers Committee.

This function was attended by Dale Weightman,Adam Thomson who Dale
interviewed and Brendon Gale and Gary March who spoke and answered questions.

We had a great turnout at the function and I believe everyone enjoyed themselves.

Tim Frohlich and I were lucky enough to help out with the team for the match
and gave us the opportunity to get an inside view on game day and get out on the ground.

You don’t get to see a lot of the game so I can’t personally comment on the team’s
performance.
Although I thought Dustin Martin and Daniel Jackson were among our best players.

Again we are very disappointed with the result,I can tell you that the Coaches
are trying to be positive and the players certainly tried to work together to
turn things around.

It’s a long journey that has begun,we have Melbourne this week and you
would suggest they will start favourites, they have been good the last two weeks
particuarly with their tackling pressure.
We need to emulate that, doesn’t matter how good your skills are, tackling and hardness
at the ball causes turnovers.

Whilst we have played 3 teams who have a list that is advanced quite simply
if we don’t improve aspects of our game we will not beat Melbourne.

But again a new game plan is being introduced and it doesn’t just happen in 3
weeks,as long as their is a progressive improvement during the year.

Thanks to all those who supported us over the weekend.

We don’t intend to put the cue in the rack, there is still a long way to go in the
Season,we will continue to watch games at Camelia Grove Hotel and we will
also be using Bardwell Park Rsl as a venue for some games as we receive
fantastic support from CEO John Fitzgibbon.

It is intended that we will have a joint trivia night at Camelia Grove Hotel
with our co tenants the Sydney Magpies and will keep you posted.

Keep the faith folks,a win is not far away.

Media Drum

A heavy defeat in round one had the media banging the doom and gloom drum down at punt road  this week. I sat through and watched all the media shows and we copped some heavy hits from Wallsy, Parkin, Healy, Taylor and the like. Everyone is prediciting a bottom two finish for both the Tigers and Demons with most saying its just a matter of which order we finish.  Everyone’s assessment of our list is that it’s poor and with two new teams coming into the competition, all the talk suggests that the future isnt bright.  Some questions were asked that if Richmond are serious about rebuilding then why are Cousins and Simmonds still in the 22? Its fair to say both Cousins and Simmonds won’t be around in 3 years to see the fruits of our investment with the young cubs. Whilst I am a fan of Cousin’s talent, I am less supportive of the inclusion of Simmonds.  Simmonds had a poor game lastweek, many times we were exposed in the ruck and at atleast 5 times in the forward or backline line our ruckman failed to make the contest. I have no doubt we need some experience in the 22 to help steer the kids around the paddock and this is one of Cuz’s many talents. He mentors the younger guys around him on and off the field and this combined with his athletic tank is the reason why he is one of the first guys picked each week.  Talls don’t grow on trees, however Richmond are not short on talls and I would like to see Angus Graham, Ty Vickery, Andrew Browne and Jaden Post all get a go. We need to invest game time in these types of guys if they are to hold down key position posts in the future.  Having these guys in the two’s is a wasted season of development in my opinion.  They need to play on the best players in the country and learn from their experiences whether good or bad. We have the Bulldogs this week and I just hope the kids can be competitive and take a way a hell of a lot from one of the best teams in the competition.

Opinion only – Bree McAullay
