JACK AND THE COLEMAN

Well Folks
I must say that I couldn’t get to the Pub yesterday to watch the game.
I got a phone call from Football Manager at St George AFL where Luke plays if
I could look after the injuries and strapping for all 3 teams playing at Olds Park.
At least they payed me for the day’s work.
Luke’s Reserve Grade team had a heartbreaking 55-57 loss to Nor West Jets
and could have knocked them out of fourth spot.

His younger brother Dominic had more luck winning 15c Soccer Major Semi 1-0.

I haven’t had a chance to watch a replay of the game just yet,but hope to,but it
appears a much better effort than last week.
And of course our old mate Jack kicked a lazy 7,odds on to win the Coleman Medal,
an outstanding effort playing in a team running second last.

Bad news about Ben Cousins straining a hamstring, hopefully he can get a fairwell game.

Haven’t booked my flights yet, don’t know if I will go down if Cuzzy is not playing.
Also given we have the trivia night.

Guys I have had replies from Nicole Royals,Lisa Rose and Rachel Burns indicating they
will have tables on the night, and our Treasurer Tim Frohlich has confirmed his attendance.
Tim has also sponsored our group for $250-00,many thanks Tim.

We need to know numbers so we can tell the caterers how manyn people are attending.
We are intending to make sure you get a decent amount of food for your $20-0 entry
and there will be $200-00 for the winning table.
Given the set up of the pub table sizes will be restricted to numbers of 4 -6.

Our trivia expert John Petkovshek will be putting the questions together,I will
be MC,good for a laugh or two.
We are co-hosting the event with Sydney Magpies and our groups will share
in $10-00 profit for every pesron that attends.

Please let me know asap if you are planning to attend.
MATCH REPORT
A JACK Riewoldt-inspired Richmond has fallen to a 21-point loss after pushing St Kilda for most of Saturday’s clash at Etihad Stadium.
The 17.13 (115) to 14.10 (94) result was the Saints’ 13th victory in succession over the Tigers – a streak that dates back to round four, 2003.
However, the game might have also been the farewell appearance for retiring veteran Ben Cousins, who strained his left hamstring during the third quarter.
While Cousins’ injury soured the afternoon somewhat, the battle of the Riewoldts provided plenty of highlights at either end of the ground.
Jack Riewoldt bagged seven goals for Richmond to win the Ian Stewart Medal, while his cousin Nick booted 3.3 for St Kilda.
Justin Koschitzke (five goals), Nick Dal Santo (36 possessions) and Brendon Goddard (29) were other dominant players on the winning side, as was Leigh Montagna, who picked up 42 touches.
Goddard enjoyed both highs and lows. He took one of the finest marks of the season during the second quarter, then cost his team a goal when he was responsible for an interchange infringement in the third.
Back after a four-week suspension, midfielder Trent Cotchin was an impressive contributor for the Tigers, while Jack Riewoldt took his season tally to 75 goals, and kept him in front of Bulldogs forward Barry Hall in the race for the Coleman Medal.
Jake King was another surprise packet in attack with three goals.
Richmond began well and led by 17 points with less than three minutes to go in the opening quarter.
But two late majors had the Saints within five points at the first change, and they hit the front early in the second term through Koschitzke.
However, the Tigers kept battling, and thanks to a brilliant goal from Cotchin they trailed their top-four opponents by only five points at the long break.
The Saints’ class shone through during the second half, though it took until the early stages of the last quarter for them to finally break clear.

HAIL THE TIGERS

Now what a day yesterday.
Started with a 6-00am wake up,same time as the good wife who helps our 14 year old
do a paper run every Sunday morning,he’s a good kid but a bit vague so Elizabeth makes
sure all the deliveries are done,he makes about $70-00 a week.

Off to the Airport for a 8-15 flight,no dramas,plane on time,only concern
was when the Captain said that the weather was 10 degrees and raining,I planned
for cold weather but not rain, should have checked the forecast.

Anyway on arrival at Melbourne Airport, definitely cold but not raining,so ok that’s not too bad.

Given my vast contacts at RFC,I had an appointment with Geoff Blackbourne the Richmond doorman,
to meet him outside Gate 1 so he could give me a dressing room pass for the day.

So off to Richmond station for the walk to the MCG,who should I bump into but my old mate the ‘flea’
Dale Weightman who was off to the dressing room to present debutant Robert Hicks with his jumper
for first game,so I tagged along and got to see Dale make a speech and present Robert with his jumper
so that was good.

So I got my pass off Geoff headed off, still only 11-30,so I sourced the seats that are on sale
for AFL Grand Final-$1500-00 to sit in Great Southern Stand-Q9-pretty high up but on lower level,
pretty good vantage point-cost covers ticket plus a function on the Friday night,so that’s okay,
especially when I was lucky enough to win $1000-00 on WS FM to ring up when a song
goes dead.
I got through, which is a shock,I never win anything,so that will help cover the cost of my ticket.
Also when I rang AFL events they said I can request a certain spot where I sit,so hopefully they
will look after me,so good result all round.

Then off to my seat for the game, gee there were a lot of empty seats in the Reserved section I sit in,
but most of the regulars I sit near were there,so pleasantries all round, they are nice people.

I guess Sunday games at 1-10 on a cold day, means not all Members turn up.

So to the game, first quarter pretty good,
2nd quarter disastrous, disgraceful umpiring, when I saw we had Steve McBurnie I thought good,
he’s a decent umpire but even he was crook on the day and his two mates were worst.
But to be fair we were poor as well, just couldn’t get the ball out of back half,we were so lucky
with all the misses Adelaide made,so only 19 points down at Half Time.

By the way did I mention how cold it was,it was absoulutely freezing, but funnily enough I thought
we could still win,we had played poorly, were down 11-4 in free kick count and only down by 19 points.

I had a bit of free time before the game and I don’t normally punt so I took Richmond to win by 20-39
points.

Third quarter Richmond come out a different team,Adelaide were not able to find targets as easily as
they had,we started to win the ball out of the centre, both our Ruckmen were getting first knock,
I will eat my words I thought Andrew Browne looked good,he can be a good tap ruckmen.
We also started to get more run out from the backline, the goal to Webberly was a prime exmaple of that.

So we turned a 19 point deficit into a 6 point lead going into the last quarter, and we we were running to
the Punt Road end.
The small but vocal Richmond crowd could senss a victory.

More of the same in the last quarter we continued to dominate, the Hail, came down, and we went onto
win by 20 points,I only had a fiver on us,so I didn’t win a fortune,but made a few bucks.

I tell you what to see the Tigers come from behind and win by 20 points, made the travel and being in the freezing cold worthwhile.

Finally hey I,ve got a dressing room pass,a dash around to gate 1 down in the lift, into the dressing room,
just in time to see the boys come in,a happy lot and to see them sing the team song.

But wait there’s more off to the social club, for a couple of frothies, caught up with a lot of people
I have got to know,Willos,Steve King,Tiger Jack and his family and Shev from Sydney.

There was group getting the Tigers song going, the place was packed, everyone was happy.

Jack Riewoldt,Ben Nason and Mitch Famer cam back and Jack was interviewed,he is great,
a champion bloke and on the way to being a champion player.

Couldn’t hang around too long a dash to the Airport for a 6-45 flight, but only one runway
in Sydney so flight delayed by an hour, finally arrived at Sydney at 9-05,home by 9-30,
but it didn’t matter I had a great day.

It’s great being a Tigers supporter, gees I hope you managed to read this without falling asleep.

MATCH REPORT
The Crows are now two games and significant percentage outside the eight with just four games remaining, and they have a tough run home on the back of the 15.10 (100) to 11.14 (80) loss.

Watch the spirited Tigers sing the team song after the match

The first term was a turnover-fest, with both sides struggling in the slippery and gusty conditions, and in the second the Crows blew the opportunity to put the game away when they kicked 4.9 with the last 13 scoring shots of the term to lead by just three goals after going inside 50 16 times compared to the Tigers seven.

The third saw a much better effort from the Tigers as they outscored the visitors six goals to two – including debutant Robbie Hicks’ first AFL goal to take a single-goal lead in to the last on the back of a Luke McGuane major.

The Tigers got the first two goals of the term to get the lead out to 18 points, but Kurt Tippett’s first of the afternoon got one back before the hail arrived and turned the ground white, and the Tigers ran the game out with two of the last three goals.

The Tigers were brilliantly led by veteran midfielder Ben Cousins, who played his best game for the club, while a host of midfielders in Jeromey Webberley, Shane Tuck despite numerous turnovers, Shane Edwards, Dustin Martin and Daniel Jackson, while Brett Deledio and Chris Newman were as good as ever across half-back.

Next week, the Tigers face the surging Melbourne, while the Crows have the Western Bulldogs at AAMI Stadium.

Match Report: Round 16 vs North Melbourne

Well this was it, the annual Richmond vs North trip to Melbourne with my brother and a couple of mates. My brother is a North supporter, one of my mates is a North supporter, so regardless of the outcome of the game, I am always outnumbered by the opposition at the pub afterward.

Last year, in Round 5, our Tigers notched their first win for the year against the Kangaroos and it was a dizzying experience watching us come from no-hope underdogs to victors. This year, with the Tigers running hot on five wins from six starts, they entered as favourites and expectation was high, despite the significant outs of the suspended Daniel Jackson and team talisman, Ben Griffiths (who is yet to play in a losing AFL team). Upsets were on the cards for Round 16, Geelong having been knocked off by Adelaide and the Saints having been embarrassed by Collingwood and the steady Melbourne rain was going to all but remove clean overhead marking as a feature of the game. Something I would rue, having just brought in Jack Riewoldt into my dream team.

As regularly mentioned by my North Melbourne-supporter comrades, the result of this game also meant more from a season perspective to the Kangaroos than to the Tigers, North Melbourne having to keep winning in order to keep their finals hopes alive.

Right from the opening bounce, despite the closeness of the score early and the fact that Jake King, in his 50th game, kicked the first goal, what concerned me was not the fact that we were generally behind, but rather the features of the Tigers’ play which had been so visible over the past six weeks – desire and pressure – were notably absent. And the Kangaroos were showing just the sort of desire and pressure which has had them threatening the top-8 all season.

The early going was an arm-wrestle with neither team able to string 2 consecutive goals together until Trent Cotchin laid a late hit on Kangaroo rookie Sam Wright which ended with Wright being carried off, not to return and Cotchin being reported; a report which has ended up costing our young gun midfielder 4 weeks on the sidelines. Having debated the severity of the hit with my brother and my mate at the time, I felt it was late and, finally, agreed that it was to the back of the shoulder. Perhaps it deserved weeks for what it was, but 4? Every commentator (including my North Melbourne comrades) I have heard comment on the incident sees 4 weeks as excessive.

Following Cotchin’s hit, the free-kick, 50m penalty and Brent Harvey’s subsequent goal, not only did the tide seem to turn North Melbourne’s way in terms of ball dominance, but it seemed that the match-day umpires had chosen to punish Richmond for the hit. A free-kick count which had, prior to the Cotchin hit, seemed relatively even blew out in the end to 21 to 12 in North’s favour. Whether North lifted in response to the hit or it was simply a coincidence, Richmond did not threaten to come back for the remainder of the match.

This is not to say that we lost the day due to the umpires, rather we lost the day due to that desire and that pressure remaining absent from the Tigers’ game all day and seeming to grow quarter-by-quarter in the Kangaroos’ game as they marched away to a 50-point final deficit, Richmond 7, 11, (53) to North Melbourne 15, 13, (103).

Kangaroo Andrew Swallow was the game’s best, running hard and creating opportunities for the Kangaroo forwards which the Tiger forwards, I think, would have killed for. North’s young full-back Nathan Grima performed admirably on Jumping Jack, restricting him to 3.2 from 8 kicks with the help of several other Kangaroo defenders. To Jack’s credit, however, he was very accurate with the set shots he did take – particularly considering the weather conditions. Daniel Connors and Ben Cousins were Richmond’s best, working hard, running all day, though the effectiveness of their disposal reduced their impact on the game.

Hopefully, despite being without Daniel Jackson for his final week of suspension and Trent Cotchin for his first, we can show some more of that desire and pressure from Rounds 10-15 against the Pies this Saturday.

BATTLE OF THE JUNGLE

It’s been a beautiful day, here in Sydney town.
It’s always a great day after a Tigers win,you wake up just feeling
great.
I suspect a few hangovers in Brisbane this moning.

Another step forward for the Richmond Football Club as they took on the
Lions on their home ground,be it,missing a couple of key players,
and led all night to record another good win.

The media are saying it was a game to forget with a number of skill errors,
but ask any Tigers supporter and they say they loved it.
I got a bit worried in the last quarter when the Lions got close, but the team
really held their nerve,I really believe we have a great Coach and support staff.

As usual our class players showed the way,Brett Deledio, very effective off half back,
Dustin Martin worked hard and broke the lines as always,Ben Cousins bobbed up everywhere,
Jack Riewoldt again taking contested marks and working hard all night with and without the ball,
they were ably supported by Andrew Collins, one of his best games,Shane Tuck in and under and winning
plenty of clearances,Matt White who run hard and presented all night.
The backline did a great job,Luke MCGuane until he came off,Will Thursfield did a good job on Fevola
second half and again Newey led the team well.

So another win, going into the break with a confidence and a good feeling.

Bring on the Swans 2 weeks from today, yours truly playing in the Legends game
at 12-00noon,get along for a look,hopefully I go alright,I am in training so I don’t
make a gook of myself.

So a week off watching the Tigers,so enjoy the week, lucky me gets to go
to Richmond on Saturday as runner for my son’s AFL team,it’s not like Richmond
in Melbourne,it’s about one and half hours from the centre of Sydney.

Finally we had a crowd of close to 30 people at our home base the Camelia Grove Hotel
last night, and the atmosphere was great, there’s nothing better than watching a win
with other Tigers supporters.
Thanks for those that were there,it was a great night, and we are always well
received by the Hotel and made to feel welcome.
For those in Sydney I have already mentioned that we can get tickets through the club, free
of charge for this game, for our Melbourne cousins anyone who would like to join
us in a reserved seating area(not sure what part of the ground) please let me know
if you would like a ticket.
Need to let the Club know by Monday the 28th,once we have the names, tickets will
be placed in an envelope with your name on it and left at the Membership
section of the Tiger Den on the day of the game.
To make a bit of money for the Sydney Tigers we were going to charge $10-00 for
non members of the Sydney Tigers but I think we will offer this for free,we have up to
a maximum of 30 tickets.
RICHMOND made it back-to-back wins and in the process put a huge hole in the Brisbane Lions’ finals aspirations with a 19-point win at the Gabba on Saturday night.

In a scrappy and at times comical encounter, the Tigers led from start to finish to run out victors 15.15 (105) to 12.14 (86).

They steadied the ship in the final quarter after the Lions got to within five points, as first Andrew Collins spun and goaled from 45m, then Jack Riewoldt took a strong contested mark and goaled to restore a handy lead.

Richmond never looked back.

Despite lacking skill at times, the Tigers worked harder and deserved their second win in succession after leading at every break.

It was a miserable 200th game for Lions full-forward Brendan Fevola, who kicked just one goal – from a free kick – and mixed that with an air-swing, helicopter punt and a couple of total miskicks.

He was not on his own, however, and the Lions have now lost eight of their past nine games and slumped to a 5-8 record ahead of the mid-season break.

Not only was the home side missing skipper Jonathan Brown with a groin injury, but Brownlow Medallist Simon Black joined the stars in the stands after being a late withdrawal with a virus.

But the Tigers were terrific, led by Riewoldt’s three goals and Brett Deledio’s 33 possessions.

They had workers all over the ground with Shane Tuck (29), Ben Cousins (27) and classy youngster Dustin Martin (26) prominent.

Riewoldt further stamped himself as a star of the game with a number of strong contested marks against Daniel Merrett and his crucial fourth-quarter goal helping to get his team home.

The only injured concern for the Tigers was full-back Luke McGuane, who hobbled off in the second quarter with a leg injury after blanketing Fevola.

The Tigers have now joined Adelaide and West Coast on three wins.

TIGERLAND

Oh we’re from Tigerland a fighting fury

Do we still remember how it goes,do we what and wasn’t it great.

Richmond have recorded their first win of the year in treacherous conditions
but played brilliant wet weather football, being hard at the contest, recording
a record 140 tackles and moving the ball forward at every opportunity.
The secret to playing in the wet is to just keep moving the ball forward,it makes it
very difficult for the opposition and this is what the Tigers did.

If you look at our 4 leading possession getters Tuck-Cotchin,Deledio and Newman they
all are hard at the ball and this lead the way.
Shane Tuck has been very solid this year and thoroughly deserves his place in the
team, you need his type of players, hard at it all day.
No suprise to see the above 4 players joined in the list of best by Riewoldt,Martin,
Graham,Cousins and Benny Nason isn’t he a beauty.

Now I have to be honest I didn’t see all of the game,I was at a Back To Easts Rugby
Reunion at Woollahra Oval, watching them play Manly, they got smashed and it
was an ordinary game, but we were in the Club house so I did get them to put the AFL
so saw a bit of the game and like all of you were delighted to see the way we performed
and get that first win,I tipped them by the way.
I am guessing our numbers at Camelia Grove probably wern’t great,it would have been
good to have a crowd like last week celebrating the win.
So enjoy the win for a week at least, going to work on Monday after a win always feel good.
MATCH REPORT
IT TOOK 10 rounds but Richmond has registered its first win for the season, downing a disappointing Port Adelaide by 47 points in horrendous conditions at AAMI Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
In holding the Power and their depleted forward line to the lowest score in the club’s history, the Tigers built a 29-point lead by the main break and kicked four goals to one in the second half to win 10.17 (77) to 3.12 (30).
Tough onballer Shane Tuck revelled in the heavy conditions, finishing with 31 disposals (18 contested), nine clearances and 14 tackles.
Captain Chris Newman (23 possessions and six tackles), Trent Cotchin (25 disposals and six clearances) and first-year midfielder Dustin Martin (21 possessions and 11 clearances) dominated around the stoppages.
Port lost Dean Brogan to back spasms before the first bounce and Angus Graham took full advantage to finish with 34 hit-outs and 14 tackles.
In-form forward Jack Riewoldt kicked four goals – including a second-term effort sure to feature in many highlight reels – and Ben Nason had three.
The Power, missing regular forwards Robbie Gray, Warren Tredrea, Daniel Motlop (club suspension) and Jason Davenport (AFL suspension), managed just three goals through Brett Ebert, Daniel Stewart and Cameron Hitchcock.
Parts of AAMI Stadium were under water in the first quarter, but the torrential rain and gale force winds didn’t seem to affect the competitive Tigers.
Riewoldt and Robin Nahas gave the visitors a dream start, kicking the opening two goals of the game.
Ebert and Hitchcock responded for Port, but any impetus was stalled when Ebert (concussion) was taken from the ground on a stretcher and Hitchcock injured his shoulder.
Midfielder Steven Salopek added to the Power’s woes, injuring his shoulder in an innocuous collision, though he and Ebert would later return.
Riewoldt kicked the opening two goals of the second term to increase the margin to 17 points and another goal to Nason gave the visitors an unassailable lead.

BRAVE EFFORT

Whilst the Tigers fell short today I thought it was a very brave effort
by a very young team against a hardened side with many premiership players.

On numerous occasions Richmond players put their head over the ball,
to me a sign of a committed team.

This rot about Richmond being as bad as Fitzroy in the 80’s and being the
first team since 1964 not to win a game is garbage,
I am convinced Richmond will win a game this year, could be against
Essendon on Saturday night.

We are on the right track with Damien Hardwick,I believe that he has
coached very well the last two weeks and we could have maybe should
of won the game today.

Under Damien Hardwick the team has become a much better tackling side,
won’t shirk a contest, they have also recruited some good kicks,
Jerome Webberley is a good kick and Ben Nason is a great pick up
so late in the draft.

The move of Brett Deledio to the Half Back line has been a good one as he
is a good decision maker and uses the ball so well,he can give us that drive
from the backline and seems to get more involved,I think he plays better when he is accountable.

Okay yes it was an honourable loss and we hate that,we want wins.

With players like Deledio,Cotchin who was outsanding today,Dustin Martin,
Daniel Jackson,Nathan Foley always makes a difference,Kelvin Moore,
Luke McGuane,Will Thursfield,Jack Riewoldt,Ben Nason,Jerome Webberley,
Robin Nahas,David Astbury, Ty Vickery,Chris Newman lead from the front today,Shane Edwards playing
a lot more consisent this year,I believe things are not as bleak as the pundits
would have it,there is a glimmer of hope.

By the way good to see ANgus Graham get a run today,I think common sense
would see Richmond run with him and Ty Vickery for the rest of the year.
This Saturday night is the Dreamtime game, our first Saturday night game,I hope
we get a good crowd to the Camelia Grove to hopefully celebrate our first win,
I am quietly confident.

By the way I just read the blogs about the game on Herald Sun and can’t believe
what some people write that is was a terrible game,I thought it was a good game of footy
okay some skill errors but both teams were hard at it,umpiring was a bit dodgey at times.
MATCH REPORT
RICHMOND has gone within one straight kick of breaking its 2010 duck, falling just three points short of Hawthorn at the MCG on Sunday afternoon.

In a pulsating final quarter, the Hawks held on to win 13.11 (89) to 13.8 (86) thanks to captain Sam Mitchell, whose lunging tackle on Shane Tuck denied the midfielder a shot on goal with the Tigers down by just three points deep into the final quarter.

The last quarter had it all, with the Hawks stretching their lead to 17 points early in the quarter.

But a key miss to Young – with Franklin by himself in the square – saw the Tigers get back in the game with goals to Alex Rance and Angus Graham.

A bone-crushing collision between Campbell Brown – celebrating his 150th game – and Daniel Jackson saw the Hawks sweep the ball forward, with Rioli kicking his third goal for the quarter and fourth for the match.

But a strong mark to Riewoldt against three Hawks opponents had the Tigers close within three points. With seconds remaining, Tuck ran onto a loose ball, but Mitchell’s lunging tackle saved the day.

With the Hawks fielding a near full-strength side for the first time this season, it was new recruit Shaun Burgoyne who stole the show.

Playing his first game in the brown and gold, the former Port player was sensational for the Hawks, gathering 20 possessions, while he was well supported by Mitchell who finished the match with 29 touches.

For the Tigers, Trent Cotchin continued his rise as a premier midfielder with 27 possessions while the defensive pair of Will Thursfield and Luke McGuane kept Jarryd Roughead and Lance Franklin to just four goals between them.

Jackson – given the task playing on Sam Mitchell – finished the game with 31 possessions and was instrumental in the centre clearances in which the Tigers dominated 19 to six.

LOSS TO GEELONG

G’Day Folks

Firstly I will post comments from Craig Cameron RFC-Football Manager
sorry I forgot to paste comments from Freo game.

Messages for Round 6

– Clearly our worst performance for the year. We weren’t competitive for most of the game
– Even though we were a young and inexperienced side against last year’s premiers – we still expect a better physical contest.
This will be addressed during the week.

– Jack Riewoldt battled manfully up forward with 7 shots on goal – Shane Tuck again had plenty of possessions and played
well. Of the younger players Ben Nason again showed that he is comfortable at the level and David Astbury was smart and
composed when he went down back for the last quarter and a half.

– Tackling and winning the hard ball will be a focus of training this week.

– Many sides bounce back with a win from 100 point losses. We are confident that we will have a much more competitive effort this week against the Crows.

I think it is good that we get feedback from the Football Department about the weekend’s game, and
I think they are being pretty open and honest.

Need I add more it was a very ordinary perormance and to their credit the Club
are not hiding from this.

A lot of emphasis has been placed on us having a young group and not the hard bodies
but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be working hard to push up and back, hit targets
by hand or foot and use their voice as 3 blokes should have done when Luke McGuane
was run down from behind.

So there is still a hell of a way to go.yes Adelaide and Hawthorn are beatable in the
next two weeks but I fear that if we don’t come away from these games with a win
or improved performance that the confidence will seek even further.

Interesting to note that only 2 players were listed in the Australian as Richmond’s best,
Shane Tuck was one and Chris Newman the other, probably fair enough and we didn’t
want Shane Tuck at the end of the year but he is always hard at the ball.

There is a lot of debate about why we let experienced players go and we have exposed
a young group to AFL football.

I agree with letting the older guys go because we need to develop
our team but it can be argued letting older guys go has reduced our chance
of being competive, but the Club has always said that it’s not about this year
it’s about our future, but obviously it is tough following the team this year.

One thing you should now about me is that I am incredibly loyal which I
am pretty proud of giving I was born in Double Bay following the Roosters and
I am here for the long haul.

We can learn from other clubs and now that we have 3 recruiters hopefully
look at mature age players to recruit.

So Adelaide this week,it’s on Sunday-Mothers Day.taking the wife out to
get in the good books.

The game is on at 4-40PM so hopefully you can make it to Camelia Grove,
we had a good turnout on Sunday so try to get along

TIGERS V FREO

Richmond had it’s best start to a game leading at quarter time 37-11,but
again fell away and lost by 39 points.

Even early in the last quarter they were down by only 14 points but Fremantle
finished the stronger to record a comfortable victory and were never headed.

One thing I must say that under Damien Hardwick there is definitely a lot more hardness
and they are a better tackling side.
Though it must be said there is a difference between hardness and giving away dumb free kicks
by getting sucked in by the opposition(Hayden Ballantyne is now the player I hate
the most in the AFL-dirty little grub,Freo are a niggly side)

But that does not excuse some of the ill discilpine of the Richmond Side,
and still some of the basic errors, such as missing targets from 20m away, not having
a player on the goaline when Pavlich had a shot from a long way out.
Jack Riewoldt is a talented player but his lack of interest during half time and his
falling to the ground when pushed was very ordinary,I hope Hardwick rips into
him.

Having said that I believe there is a little bit improvement showing
great to see Nathan Foley back,Robbie Nahas was very good pressuring up forward
and Deledio on the Half Back flank is a good move,he usually makes the right decison
when he has the ball.

So another loss and off to Geelong on Sunday,it doesn’t get any easier.
Some say we won’t win a game,I don’t believe that,I believe that teams like Adelaide and Essendon
are beatable and I belive that the team will continue to improve each week.

The game will be on Sunday at 1-10PM on Channel Seven,Collingwood are on at 2-10,but we will
be able to view the game at Camelia Grove Hotel.

We will set aside two games to watch at Bardwell Park RSL
I propose that we watch the Dreamtime Game(Only problem I don’t think kids are allowed though it is a night game)
Saturday May 22nd 7-10PM
and the Carlton game
Saturday 14/8/10 2-10 (I think kids are allowed in the Club in the afternoon)
(John no Dragons game on May 22nd-split round in NRL)
If we go ahead with these two games we want to promote it to get as many people as possible
as Bardwell Park RSL are our biggest sponsor.
In the past Camelia Grove have sponsored us $500-00 and $250-00 in the last two years, namely
because I have been game enough to front them.
This won’t happen this year they now have other clubs watching the games there and we just don’t
get the same numbers as the other groups, doesn’t help when we have so many Sunday games.
MATCH REPORT

RICHMOND put up fierce resistance but could not prevent Fremantle running away with a 39-point win at Subiaco on Sunday night.

The Tigers were the better side early, kicking the first five goals of the game, and they were still in the hunt for their first win of 2010 early in the fourth quarter.

However, Fremantle’s form so far this season held true and Mark Harvey’s side advanced to fourth place on the AFL ladder with a 15.22 (112) to 11.7 (73) win.

Fremantle’s influential midfield trio of Aaron Sandilands, Michael Barlow and David Mundy drove a run of eight unanswered goals to build a 20-point lead at the final change.

The Tigers refused to go away with early goals in the fourth quarter, but Fremantle clicked into action and booted five of the game’s last six goals.

The Tigers played their best football of a so-far fruitless season in the opening quarter, with Robin Nahas and Brett Deledio in superb touch.

Nahas finished with three goals and 18 possessions as his side’s best, while Nathan Foley (25 possessions) worked into the game.

Dustin Martin (21) continued to play a leading role in Richmond’s engine room, but, despite the visitors’ bright start, there was a sense of inevitability about the end result.

It doesn’t get any easier for the last-placed Tigers, who take on Geelong in round six.
